  • Oil Painting Plein Air Style

    Fridays 10am-12pm Spring-Fall

    Beginning mid April. Head outside on Friday mornings with our experienced Plein Air Instructors, 10:00am-12:00pm. Everyone should be prepared for the elements, as class will be outside weather permitting (meet at the SHAC at 10am and then proceed on to location). You must bring your own materials (check your confirmation email for list of items).

  • Succulent Porch Pots

    June 6th, 6:30pm $60

    This class is part of our summer series, there will be music, food & drink available during the workshop. Feel free to bring the whole family to hang out, even if only one of you are taking the class! Instructor: Thyme to Grow

  • Mosaics for Beginners

    Ages 12 years and up (under 16 should be accompanied by adult). Supplies provided will include an assortment of broken china mosaics , letter beads, a 5x7 frame and grout. Instructor: Bev Webb/Eye Candy Mosaics

  • Create Your Own Custom Doormat - Summer

    June 19th, 6:30pm $45

    Create your own hand painted doormat (12 designs to choose from) - we provide the template and you choose the colors! This workshop is such a BLAST, no creative experience necessary! Great for a "ladies night out" or "date night"! Feel free to grab a drink from River's Edge & bring it over to the class. Instructor: Rachel Snell

  • Wildlife Drawing & Painting with Rusty Frentner

    Fridays from 10:30am-12:30pm $25

    The objective of this project is to learn how to draw and paint wildlife realistically. Ideally students would attend each week and build their skills consecutively, but we are leaving registration open for drop-in style to come when you can and we will meet you right where you're at and what you're working on.

  • Sip and Paint Watercolor Workshop

    Join us for a fun evening out and leave with some knew knowledge of watercolor! Price of ticket comes with a drink ticket (wine, beer or non-alcoholic). Be prepared to show ID. All ages welcome (12 & under must be accompanied by adult) Instructor: Abigail Powers

    This is part of the Southside Summer Concert & Art Series and will have acoustic music during the class, as well as food and drinks available from River's Edge.

  • Floral Arranging Workshop

    Floral Arranging - Farm Fresh, Local Blooms with Meri Jo Flower Farm

     

    Immerse yourself in the wonder and color of our beautiful Michigan grown flowers and foliage. Using locally grown, freshly harvested flowers, in this workshop you will learn basic floral arranging design principles and tips specific to different flower varieties.  Relax and let nature inspire you as you work with Michigan grown Lilies, Sunflowers, Zinnias, Rudbeckia, Snapdragons, Yarrow, Lisianthus and other seasonal flowers in bloom on the farm at workshop time.

     

    This event will give you the foundation to create lovely floral designs for your home or for gifting whether you purchase flowers from local markets or the grocery or bring in flowers from your own garden. The workshop includes all design tools, floral food, vessel and flowers necessary to create one floral arrangement.

  • Fused Glass Garden Stake

    Please join us for this beautiful garden stake workshop. You may chose to make ANY design you'd like. Like butterflies? Flowers? Boats? Display your beautiful creation in your garden or house plant with stake included. Approx size of glass piece is 6" tall x 3" wide. 

    All materials will be provided. No experience is needed. The instructor will show you how easy it is to cut glass.  

    All projects will go home with the instructor to be kiln fired and assembled and can be picked up the following week at the SHAC during open hours. An email will be sent out with pickup instructions.

    Please let your friends and family know about the fun ~ Great Ladies Night Out!

    Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by paying adult.

  • Come Paint with Steff Spackman

    Mondays, 4:30-6:30pm - 4 or 8 week sessions or DROP-IN ($30 per week)

    Mondays, 4:30-6:30pm. Ongoing class, you can register for drop-in at any time (or if the session has already started) or try an 8-week session at a reduced rate. Continue from a watercolor or acrylics class you've taken or improve upon a breadth of watercolor skills. You'll fine-tune your skills and learn great tips in color mixing, color choices, creating depth in painting, accurate drawing/perspective, creating textures, painting reflections and much more. Basic painting experience required. Instructor: Stephanie Spackman. Drop-In is $30 per week, if you aren't able to commit for the whole session.

  • Blown Glass Ornaments

    Christmas in July!

    July 18th 7pm

    In this class, you will learn how to make beautiful and unique blown glass ornaments using Glaskolben pre-blown clear glass cylinders. Glaskolben are the perfect way to get into blown glass without having to learn how to pull points from glass tubes.

    You will begin by learning about the different types of glass used in blown glassmaking, the tools and equipment needed, and the basic safety precautions. Then, you will learn how to heat the Glaskolben in the flame of a torch to soften the glass. Once the glass is soft, you will learn how to blow into the Glaskolben to expand it and create different shapes.

    You will also learn how to add decorative elements to your ornaments, such as frit and stringers.

    This class is perfect for beginners and experienced glassmakers alike. All materials and equipment will be provided.

  • Painting with Pastels with Kathy Fish

    Wednesdays, 2:30-4:30pm. 8 week sessions $165

    Wednesdays, 2:30-4:30pm. Ages: Adult. This 8-week class offers a crossover between drawing and painting. We will explore different methods and tools that are used with pastels to take one from starting out with a sketch to establishing values, to working with color. Going with techniques from blending to cross-hatching and onto layering, it will bring you to your finished art pieces ready to be matted and framed. Bring your own materials. Instructor: Kathleen Fish. If the session has already begun, you may stop in to try the class at any time for a fee of $25 (payable to instructor on the day of).

  • Beach Glass Crafting Party - Milford Memories

    Join the party and create your own custom beach glass window during Milford Memories at the Suzanne Haskew Arts Center in Milford! Glass project is best for ages: 10-Adult.

    *You can pick up your kit and sit down and begin your project anytime during your schedule class. Sit down and create it at the SHAC or take it home to do another time!

  • Beginner Watercolor

    River's Edge Brewing Co. is attached to the art center, make it a night by grabbing dinner before or after class. You're also welcome to bring a drink over during class time.

    Materials needed for Watercolor:

    -Watercolor paints

    -Watercolor paper pad (at least 16x20 inches in size)

    -Range of watercolor brushes

    -Pencil and eraser

  • Holiday Centerpieces Workshop

    This is a make and take class. We use fresh holiday greens with a variety to choose from. Many container choices, and bow color choices. We also have fun decorations to add to your centerpiece. Centerpiece size finished will be around 12 wide 14 inches high.

    2 dates to choose from: Nov. 14, 6pm and Dec. 8, 11am

    2 1/2 hour class . 40 people max

    Fused Glass Pinwheel Garden Flower

    May 9th, 6:15-8:15pm, $37 THIS CLASS IS SOLD OUT!

    Just in time for summer...... decorate your house plants or outdoor garden with your colorful artwork made with love by you! Approx size 14" tall. No experience needed and all supplies provided. The base pieces will be cut for you and you can chose from an array of beautiful colored petals to cut and accent any way you'd like. This class is appropriate for ages 10 to adults of all ages. All projects will be kiln fired and can be picked up the following week (7-10 days) back at the studio. Instructor: Laurie Freeman with Kiss My Glass.
